On IWD2021 we want to celebrate women writers.

We asked our supporters (you) to share favourite women authors. And you did.

You love British children’s authors JK Rowling, Enid Blyton and Richmal Crompton.  Not just because you loved their stories when you were younger, but because you are sharing them with children now.  You also love the authors of adults’ classics, Jane Austen and Agatha Christie (amongst many more).

A lot of you opted for American authors ranging from Christie Golden and Robin Hobb (both new authors to me) to the legendary Maya Angelou (of course).

Then there are Canadian authors Carol Shields and Margaret Atwood, Italian author Elena Ferrante, Ireland’s Maeve Binchy, the list could go on.

It’s wonderful that, steeped in books as we are, there are so many literary discoveries to be made, so many authors to seek out and so many books to read.

Happy International Women’s Day 2021 – and happy reading!
