Welcome to The Bookstop
We are a charitable community benefit society which has been set up in order to open an independent bookshop in the heart of St Helens – a shop that will offer something for everyone and will become a community destination in its own right.
Having successfully completed a community share issue, which closed on 6 January and which raised £45,000, our bookshop will be owned by the community, run by the community and exist for the benefit of the community. We have more than 300 shareholders and we were overwhelmed by the level of support we received from individuals, voluntary organisations, the public sector and local businesses – the town really came together to help make this happen.
We would also like to thank the Community Shares Booster Programme which is match funding our share issue and the Steve Morgan Foundation which is providing the funds to pay the salary of the bookshop manager for the first three years.
The shop is located at 11 Bridge Street and the necessary work has now commenced to refurbish the unit and undertake the fit out to convert it into the bookshop with café area that we have been working towards. We will have a better idea of the length of time this will take once the contractors have carried out the initial work and we will then advise on our expected opening date.
In the meantime, please check the News tab which we will update regularly to keep our shareholders and customers informed over the next few weeks.
In the meantime, can we ask that all our members and followers support us by making any book purchases via the this link to The Book Stop's Page on bookshop.org. The St Helens Book Stop Limited will receive a percentage of the proceeds of any book purchased through our website in this manner.
